There Has to Be More Than One Way: A Universal Design Approach to Relational and Inclusive Guidance

ETBI Webinar

Date: Friday April 10th Time: 11.00am – 12.00pm GMT

This talk introduces Universal Design for Guidance (UDG), an approach developed by Dr Mary Quirke and grounded in her doctoral research and practice in inclusive career development. Drawing on career guidance theory, psychology, design, pedagogy and models of disability, UDG reconceptualises guidance as an empathetic, relational, and empowering process.

Aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the demands of a changing world, the approach promotes flexible, inclusive practices that recognise the diversity of all learners. While rooted in work with people with disabilities, it demonstrates how designing for inclusion enhances guidance for everyone. Attendees will be prompted to rethink traditional guidance models and explore how more accessible, responsive, and equitable guidance relationships can be embedded across diverse European contexts.
